Do You Really Need A Logo?
You probably weren’t expecting that question.
Infineca does offer logo design services. As such, we don’t really make money when someone doesn’t buy a logo from us.
You might expect us then to say: “Your business needs a logo!”
I want to make sure your business will benefit from a logo, and you won’t waste your money.
So I’m writing a series of blog posts detailing how to do so, even if you have no design experience. Keep a look out for them this week!
Here are a few things to consider:
What A Logo Can Do
A logo’s most important and primary purpose is to help your potential customers remember and recognize your products or business.
If you want to see an example of this, have your friend pour you a glass of Pepsi, and another of Coca Cola. Then, hide the bottles.
Would you be able to tell which is which just by looking at the soda color in the glass?
Probably not. Neither can anybody else. A lot of people cannot tell the difference even when they taste it!
However, if the glass has a logo on it, you’ll immediately know which of the two colas you prefer.
Your logo works the same exact way. It will help your customers remember experiences and feelings associated with your company.
If these experiences and feelings are positive, your clients are sure to return when they need your services again!
Does your business have any competition that offers similar services or products? Then you need a logo to differentiate yourself.
What A Logo Won’t Do
Let’s consider a different type of business.
Jason owns a dog walking company. When he started, Jason created flyers that he gave out to his neighborhood.
He didn’t just post them, however. He talked to pet owners he met, and told them about how his service could solve their dog walking issues.
Several of his neighbors hired him.
Jason also has another thing going for him: Nobody else in his area is offering a dog walking service.
Would Jason need a logo?
A logo wouldn’t create positive experiences for his potential customers like Jason could have when he personally visited them.
A logo cannot tell Jason’s story.
But once a customer gets to know him, it can represent these things.
Jason probably won’t get a logo just yet- as he is finding it easy to meet new and potential customers. But once his business grows, he may decide to make one after all.
So, Do You Really Need A Logo?
You Need A Logo If:
- You want to look more professional
- You want to differentiate yourself from your competitors
- You have business cards, or a website, or other marketing channels and want to show they belong to your brand
- You want to catch the attention of investors, or some day sell your business
- You want to franchise and grow your brand
- You want your customers to have a distinct mark to remember you by.
Once you’ve considered the concepts presented above, you’ll have a better idea as to whether you really need a logo or not.
In the next blog post, we’ll learn what a logo can do for your business.
